NOSTALGIA EXHIBITION
A SOLO ART EXHIBITION BY MARY LAI

: is a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.
In the exhibition ‘Nostalgia’, Mary Lai reflects on the current times and the delightful memories that are an escape from reality - the beat of a song that takes you back to your first loves, crafts that feel like summer camp, the taste of your mother’s homemade soup, and the smell of fresh flowers in your hands - these are the kinds of sensations that are transformed into artwork.
In this year, Lai wanted to create work that has layers of meanings. It is the paradox of a flower that brings joy but can also represent mourning or loss. This years’ daily repetition has only heightened the varied effects it has had on each individual.
The artwork at ‘Nostalgia’ is about looking at the silver lining. The flowers are bloomed, the music is playing, and the glass is half full. Gallery visitors will leave with good vibes about the past, present, to the future.
